Kamado charcoal for stable heat and long burn time
Charcoal for your kamado: the fuel behind every cook
Good kamado charcoal is the foundation of stable temperatures, a long burn time, and pure grilled flavor. The quality and type of wood determine how quickly the charcoal ignites, how much heat it produces, and how long you can cook with a single load.
In this collection, you’ll find premium charcoal for the Titan Kamado and other ceramic barbecues. Choose from different wood types and properties for direct grilling, baking pizza, smoking, and extended low & slow cooks.
Why good charcoal matters
A kamado works best with large pieces of high-quality charcoal. These provide sufficient airflow and burn more evenly than small, crumbly pieces of charcoal. This allows you to control the temperature more precisely and means you need to add new charcoal less quickly during a long cook.
Good kamado charcoal also produces relatively little ash. This keeps the air vents clear and allows you to maintain control over the fire, even during longer BBQ sessions.
Which charcoal is right for your cook?
Acacia charcoal: versatile and accessible
Acacia charcoal ignites easily and delivers powerful, even heat. Its relatively neutral character makes this charcoal suitable for a wide range of cooks, from burgers and vegetables to pizzas and steaks.
Acacia is a strong all-round choice when you’re looking for one type of charcoal that you can use for virtually any BBQ session.
Birch charcoal: control and consistent performance
The Birch charcoal range consists of various options for outdoor cooks who value a stable burn and good temperature control.
Thanks to its reliable performance, this charcoal is suitable for both short grilling sessions and cooks where you want to keep your kamado at a constant temperature for an extended period.
Marabu charcoal: powerful and long-lasting
Marabu charcoal has a high density and is known for its long burn time and powerful heat. This makes this charcoal particularly suitable for extended BBQ sessions and prolonged low & slow cooks.
Marabu may need a little more time to reach full temperature, but then delivers long-lasting and stable performance.
Charcoal for grilling, pizza and low & slow
For direct grilling and searing, you need charcoal that can reach a high temperature quickly. Acacia and the lighter Birch varieties are excellent choices for this.
When baking pizza, both high heat and a constant temperature are important. Use enough large pieces and give the kamado time to heat the ceramic and pizza stone fully.
For pulled pork, brisket, spareribs and other low & slow preparations, a long burn time and steady combustion are more important. Choose a denser type of charcoal, such as Marabu, or a suitable Birch variety.
How much charcoal do you need?
The amount you need depends on the temperature, cooking time and size of your kamado. For a short grilling session, you do not need to fill the firebox completely. When baking pizza or preparing a long low & slow dish, it is better to start with a generously filled firebox.
Charcoal that has not completely burned after cooking can be reused during a later session. After cooking, completely close the air supply so that the fire goes out and the remaining charcoal is preserved.
Lighting charcoal safely
Preferably use natural firelighters or an electric BBQ lighter. Avoid methylated spirits, lighter fluid and other chemical fuels. These can be dangerous and leave an unwanted smell or taste.
After lighting, let the kamado gradually come up to temperature. Start closing the air supply in good time as you approach the desired temperature. A ceramic kamado retains heat for a long time and cools down less quickly than it heats up.
