Marabu charcoal from Cuba for an extremely long burn time

Cuban hardwood charcoal for serious BBQ sessions

Marabu Charcoal is made from 100% natural Marabu hardwood from Cuba. The Marabu shrub grows very quickly there and is often considered unwanted vegetation locally. For barbecue enthusiasts, however, this dense hardwood is particularly valuable.

After carbonization, it becomes powerful charcoal with an exceptionally long burn time, stable heat, and low ash content. Marabu is therefore an excellent choice for long low & slow sessions as well as high-temperature cooking.

Why does Marabu burn for so long?

Marabu is a very dense hardwood species. Its compact structure allows the charcoal to burn slowly and evenly. As a result, even the smaller pieces can continue giving off heat for a remarkably long time.

Once it has reached the right temperature, you need to add charcoal less often during a long cook. This helps maintain a stable temperature and prevents you from having to open the kamado unnecessarily while cooking.

Stable temperature for maximum control

Marabu responds reliably to the air control of a kamado or barbecue. With limited airflow, the charcoal continues burning at a steady temperature for a long time. Open the vents further and Marabu can also generate powerful heat.

This versatility makes the charcoal suitable for both low & slow and hot & fast cooking. Keep in mind that, due to its high density, Marabu may take a little longer to ignite fully. Give the fire time to calmly establish a stable base.

The exceptionally long burn time is especially useful for dishes that need to cook for several hours at a constant temperature.

Neutral flavor with a subtle aroma

Marabu burns relatively cleanly and imparts a neutral grilled flavor with a lightly aromatic character. This allows the natural flavors of meat,
